In general, "NRI marriages" refer to unions of an Indian woman living in India with an Indian man living abroad (also known as NRIs, or non-resident Indians), either as an Indian citizen (in cases where he would legally be considered a "NRI") or as a citizen of the other nation (in cases where he would legally be considered a PIO, or person of Indian origin). The issue primarily concerns Indian women who are duped into misleading matrimony with Indians living abroad. They also fail to mention how difficult and restricted a woman's legal options are when something goes wrong in an NRI marriage.
